ON THIS DAY – 2/24/81 – Maiden Rock England With Killers Tour

On this day, February 24th, 1981, Iron Maiden’s Killers World Tour would visit Queensway Hall in Dunstable, England.  The lineup for the band would consist of Paul DiAnno, Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, and Clive Burr.  The intro for the show was the band’s track The Ideas Of March, and the setlist would go down like this:

Wrathchild

Another Life

Genghis Khan

Murders In The Rue Morgue

A year and a day later, February 25th, 1982, things would be completely different as the band would once again visit the Queensway Hall in Dunstable, England to kick off The Beast On The Road Tour, replacing DiAnno would be former Samson lead singer Bruce Bruce, better known to us all as Bruce Dickinson. This would also be the late Clive Burr’s last tour and album cycle with the band.  The setlist features the track Total Eclipse which they wanted to include on the original pressing of the album, but was ousted by the track Gangland.  Supposedly EMI felt the band had too many mid-tempo songs on the album and due to time constraints, Total Eclipse was dropped from the album.  The track would later appear as the B-Side to Run To The Hills, and would be played live throughout the tour.  The track would finally be inserted back into the album with the 1995 reissue of Number Of The Beast.  You can also see the band playing the track live on their old 12 Wasted Years VHS, which was subsequently included in the Maiden England DVD set.

The setlist for this show also started off with The Ides Of March, and featured the live debut of any track off of Number Of The Beast:

Murders In The Rue Morgue

Wrathchild

Run To The Hills

Children Of The Damned

The Number Of The Beast

Another Life

Killers

22 Acacia Avenue

Total Eclipse

Transylvania

The Prisoner

Hallowed Be Thy Name
